Things you will learn at the 2008
a MAAP/IRCA Conference

Why You Should Attend The Maap/ IRCA Conference:

Are You a Teacher, An Aide, A School Administrator or someone else who provides education and support to individuals on the autism spectrum?
Our Maap conferences offer a unique and extensive opportunity to learn about Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome from the perspective of the person who is challenged by this disability. As a support person for an individual with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, you will spend two days immersed in helpful strategies presented by professionals, and fascinating perspectives from our panelists with ASD.

Are you a parent, guardian or family member of an individual who has Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome or PDD?
Maap conferences offer a unique opportunity to network with other parents who also have loved ones on the more advanced end of the autism spectrum of challenges. At most autism conferences, parents with more advanced offspring feel they are in the minority and that many presentations are geared toward the needs of less advanced individuals and their families.
At this conference, you will have the opportunity to learn from the experts:

  • Effective and positive behavioral supports
  • Coping skills for living with and training you child
  • New techniques for dealing with difficult behaviors

Parents and professionals have the opportunity to network with experts in the field of autism and Asperger’s.

Are you an individual with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome or PDD?
We also offer several panels of speakers with Asperger's/PDD who will comment on subjects including friendships and relationships, educational experiences, sensory challenges, and their unique insights into various topics.
We are proud of trying to provide an “Autism-friendly” environment within the conference site. This includes: no smoking in the conference rooms and immediately adjoining halls; a “quiet room” near the conference rooms for people with autism and Asperger’s only; and a general atmosphere of acceptance and respect.
You will also get the unique opportunity to network and socialize with one another.

Are you a professional who wants to learn more about how to help your clients or patients with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome?

This conference will offer the opportunity to learn specific skills from other professionals, such as:

  • Setting up a classroom designed for success
  • Effective and positive behavioral supports
  • New techniques for dealing with difficult behaviors
  • How to promote desired skills and behaviors, and
  • How to reduce the occurrence of undesirable behaviors

You will hear about the day-to-day challenges of persons with autism and Asperger’s from the perspective of their family members and from those with autism themselves.

And, lastly, you will have the opportunity to network with other professionals in the field of autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

Are you married or in a long-term relationship to someone with autism?
Our workshop on Wednesday evening is conducted by two women who have written a book on coping with an NS/ ASD relationship and how to make the relationship happier and more fulfilling. They have conducted workshops locally and around the U.S. Their book was based on interviews with over 80 partners of individuals with an ASD.

Are you employed or supervised by someone on the autism spectrum?
Our presentation on this subject is truly one-of-a-kind!

Are you a Father of someone with an ASD?
Our “For Father’s Only” workshop celebrates the experience of being a Dad, and takes a look at issues that can make fathers feel left out of the circle of care and support for their children.
